Splendid Oak Arts and Crafts Hall Bench Settle
A super looking Arts and Crafts hall bench in the more desirable oak. We love this piece, it is very well proportioned with good height to the seat and a slight angle to its posture, and let’s not forget those finials to the lofty rear…
We would circa its age at early 1900s and maybe a one off. It’s a well finished piece as mentioned, with lots of pleasing features - a sensible size, a pleasing tone, curved top rail and delicate shaped back splats. The seat has been quite recently reupholstered with a good quality woven fabric showing a foliage and berries design in shades of green and cream which works in well.
Workshop report – The Bench has been well cared for with gentle use rather than misuse and as such the frame is firm with no wobbles – just the odd age-related marks, a small piece missing to the rear of one of the round finials and a light mark in the middle of the back rail – neither of them game changers. The seat is firm with no rips, tear or holes and very little wear. We have lightly bees waxed the oak frame. Expect age related history marks as per images, it also smells fine.
