Splendid Oak Arts and Crafts 6 Drawer Library Table, Cotswold School Style
A marvellous oak 6 drawer library table c1930s from a Midlands school library. It retains quality and class leaning towards the Cotswold School in style and craft.
The flush fitting drawers sit on a lovely worn and grained oak top which is nicely chisel edged at the ends, with the frame being of an unpretentious honest form with a long-angled stretcher and joints on display at both ends. Being an original piece, it is pleasingly worn in the right places with lots of interesting angles and grains to the oak.
Condition wise, it’s firm and rigid with no repairs. All the drawers have historic ink marks inside but are clean and smell free, one does have a small historic chip. The oak frame is aging well in tone with the top again having historic marks close to the edges, no gouges. We have waxed the table and the workshop has given it the once over so it ready to place.
Without doubt a wonderful British table.
Would make a perfect dining table for at least six…
