A Pair of Japanned Chinoiserie Side Elbow Hall Chairs C1910
A very attractive pair of Chinoiserie chairs presented in good order surviving from around 1910. They are a super shape with fret work to the sides which is matched by the splat at rear. The back rail and front of the chairs are adorned with various oriental scenes with the front spade feet gilded at the top of the base, this again, matching up with fine lines on all of the legs.
Condition wise, the frames are untouched with some of the lacquer having marks including the edges of the seats. Fortunately the chairs have no overpainting of the frames – nice wear to the ends of the angled arms. The seats have been rewebbed and a contemporary taupe woven fabric added with no wear, holes or repairs. The frames are repair free and firm with no wobbles. We would say that they have a lived-in look rather than been tarted up!
Without doubt a good-looking pair of chairs…
The price is for the pair of chairs not one each delivered.
