Rare, original and in excellent condition. This is a Patent table by the firm J Foot and Son of London who produced a number of unique and original designs for items around the home including a fantastic Convalescent Chair similar to one we are selling. Mr Foot had one hell of an imagination and apparently this table was “the perfect gift for the sick and wounded” – what a strap line!
This is the Patent "Adapta" Table dating from the early 1900's. Construction is of mahogany and cast iron with superb detailing – including ball and claw feet, black pot caters, an ornate cast iron frame and a simple mechanism for raising and lowering the reading table top. Note the second circular top for holding drinks, a pipe or pocket Bible! Altogether without doubt a very stylish table.
The cast iron frame is in a good used condition with the occasional chip of black paint, however it has no cracks or splits and the tables are marked with use - the odd glass ring mark, and we would assume it was refinished a number of years ago.
The table is superb and probably has more uses now than it did when it was first produced. These are getting more difficult to find and look great in both contemporary and traditional settings.
Dimensions – Main Table Top: Width 68cm x Depth 45cm & Height At Tallest Point: 104cm & Height At Lowest Point: 73cm
Dimensions – Small Round Table Top: 23cm diameter (Sits 10cm higher than main table top)
