Proportional, spot on and so attractive - this ebonised cabinet survives from the Victorian Aesthetic Movement period with a host of appealing features. The door panels which have a charming painting of a tall vase filled with budding flowers are nicely aged, there are four panes of bevelled original glass at the rear, the twisted shape of the slender legs mimicked on the higher part of the cabinet, the exposed door hinges, the highlighted gilding on numerous parts and the overall proportions.
Condition wise it’s good with the usual age marks and light rubbing of the ebonising on the edges. The cabinet doors closes level however there’s no key and the glass to the rear is lightly spotted. There is evidence of another lower rail similar to the top one having been in place at one point however its not being there is not particularly noticeable and certainly not a concern. Structurally its firm with no wobbles and the little drawer is working well. It also smells fine.
A very pretty cabinet from a wonderful era in English furniture design.
Dimensions – Overall: Height 137.5cm x Width 66cm x Depth 41cm
