A rather pretty Bergere two seater sofa of neat proportions compared to some and attractively shaped, surviving from around the early 1930s. The slender frame with its gently curved arms, cabriole front legs and arched crest rail gives it a real touch of grace and charm.
Condition wise it is good - lightly lived in with the all-important cane work in fine order, firm with no holes or breaks and the frame is firm. No wobbles or repairs just showing historic wear and tear. The coil springs have been restrung are new webbed and the base has new hessian applied – resulting in firm seats. The material a short cut damask style, sea green velvet is again in good order with wear to one of the seats – no holes or rips. It also smell fine!
We have a matching pair of armchairs in similar order – would make a nice set…
