An English mid-century oak desk with all the right and useful attributes echoing from the 1930s with some rather subtle design upgrades to bring it into the early 1960s. This one was manufactured around the time when new materials such as Formica etc. were being introduced, so to find an oak one is relatively uncommon. The desk benefits from sensible use and is a combination of a long centre drawer flanked by 3 drawers to the left, topped by a slide and two drawers to the right, one being deep and suitable for files. Again, it too is topped with a slide, this one with its original pencil / rubber/ paper clip tray. It’s the long lipped oak handles on the drawers and gentle chamfer of the top edge that makes just a little more polished than the norm. The oak grain is also well matched. Condition wise, as mentioned it’s enjoyed careful home use so its smells ok. The top is marked from day to day use however no deep scratches, repairs or splits. The drawers are running well and the frame is firm with no wobbles or repairs. There is one ink mark in the inside of the bottom left drawer and two little ones in one of the right hand drawers, which you cannot see unless you open them. A great looking Mid-century English oak desk ready to work at.
