A cut above most on the quality front, this twin pedestal desk from around the late 1920s early 1930s is presented in good historic order. Used until recently, it’s pleasingly worn in the right places having been spared any over the top restoration!
It has an arrangement of a slender middle drawer flanked by a run of 4 drawers to the left and 3 on the right with the lowest two handles front a single deep filing drawer making it looking like two. It benefits from having its two slides in place which are both leather covered with one having a place for pens etc. – a nice touch. The top is finished in a classic green leather which is historically marked, with one very small repair – not a game breaker.
It’s the finer touches that make this one rise above others – the panelling which is also to the rear not always evident in lesser desks, the beautifully curved handles echoing the Art Deco period and the thick edging to name a few. It’s also weighty and one piece.
Condition wise it’s in good order coming up to 100 years old. It does have age marks and the leather is lightly worn.
Dimensions – Overall: Height 77cm x Width 152cm x Depth 87cm
