Those Victorian folk loved an armchair that could offer many a differing pose and posture - this one is no different with its claim to fame of being the preferred choice of The Royal Family, The Empress of France and the like... Engineered by Ward of Leicester Square, manufacturer of self-propelling and self-acting chairs!
“John Ward an inventor was the winner of numerous awards all over the world for his work and was awarded Her Majesty’s Royal Letter Patent in 1855 and shown at the 1951 Great Exhibition. This chap was Premier League.”
The chair can adopt many different poses – most shown in the images and maybe a few more.
The all-encompassing chair has more recently enjoyed a full professional reupholster in a deep high quality blue cotton linen which is in very good order with a few marks to one of the edges but no holes or tears - perfectly fine. The original brass fittings are all working well – if a little stiff and there is a repair to one of the ends of the frame with additional support offered by way of a small bracket not particularly noticeable mostly hidden away. The mahogany on the arms is pleasingly worn with a good even colour. The large brass castors add a little class, as if it was required…
A rather individual Victorian piece that brings a smile to our faces.
Dimensions – Overall when as Day Bed: Height 93cm x Width 69cm x Length 160cm
