So good to find one possesses a cracking set of legs and presented in good historic condition. This metal medical cabinet was made by Chas. F. Thackray Surgical Instrument Maker Leeds & London.
“Thackray a qualified pharmacist produced a number of cabinets and other surgical items including operating tables and was a pioneer in producing replacement hips and the full history can be found in The Thackery Museum housed in a Workhouse close to Leeds. Thackery suddenly died in 1934 whist taking an evening stroll his body recovered from Waterloo Lake…”
Back to the cabinet – it proudly possesses and displays it’s metal pressed manufacturing plaque to the top of the front and is presented in good order with no cracks to the cabinet glass and all the original castors are turning as they should. The lower glass shelf does have a few chips. We would assume like most of these similar cabinets, it has had a historic coat of paint probably in the 60s to “freshen it up”. The key does turn, however does not want to lock, but the handle works so that the door stays shut. We have left the cabinet as is apart from a wipe over.
A splendid cabinet oozing masses of character!
Dimensions – Overall: Height 152cm x Width 58cm x Depth 40.5cm
