It sits proudly with the kind of originality that some love and others do not wish to understand! We would assume that this one originates from the “sticks” - rather country house than having been born a “towny”! A little mystery are the two key holes on the side of the front legs, unsure of why and what their use was…
The bench has enjoyed a full life – the black material a kind of thick Rexine which covers the arms and back is worn with splits, smooth in places, crusty in others. It is well crafted from stained pine and mahogany with a firm frame sitting on thick castors, no wobbles and comes with a set of blue flowered and plain Sanderson fabric cushions which you may wish to keep or replace. We just love the big fat lion paw front feet even if one is a little minus its toes.
We would love to believe this one started life in a village tavern, sitting next to a roaring fire, enjoying a hectic life, the custodian of many a village secret – who knows? It would look smashing in a hallway or commercial space.
A very interesting, much enjoyed and tactile piece showing its age splendidly - untouched condition and all the better for it!
Dimensions – Overall: Height 87cm x Width 191cm x Depth 64cm
Dimensions – Specifically the Seat: Height 49cm x Depth 40cm
