A great size and stamped Edwards and Roberts of Wardour St, this chest of drawers survives from the Victorian period in an untouched and unmessed with condition.
“Edwards and Roberts were among the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the eighteenth century. The company was founded in 1845 and by 1854 was trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers and the firm produced high quality furniture, as well as good copies of the 18th and 19th century English and French pieces."
Not a bad start for this little chap of 4 drawers sitting on bun feet and castors. He’s all there – the drawers with their original mahogany knobs are running smoothly. As mentioned the chest is pretty much untouched – the top is historically marked with the odd stain, it smells fine, and possessing that lived in look rather than fresh back from the French Polishers… We have given him a light wax and wipe over.
The majority of the time these chests can be a little on the large size and difficult to consider a use, apart from filling them with jumpers and the like, however this one would fit a lounge, drawing room or hallway with ease.
