A George III Wingback Armchair / Fireside Chair

Such a good looking silhouette and bags of style to boot, this wingback chair survives from around the early 1800s. Chairs of this era possessed an upright stout stance and proved to be very comfortable. The chair is in good order with the frame heavy, strong with no wobbles, we would assume that the soft olive green velvet fabric (with a very subtle rib) with no rips or tears is a relatively new addition but works very well. The mahogany legs are historically marked and are finished with small brass castors. The back legs carry a good historic repair which is shown in one of the images - nothing to really concern yourself with and not particularly noticeable.
Truly full of character with its high back, humped rear and ‘hide your face’ wings - this one has bucket fulls of appeal and charm. Of course it’s comfortable with its feathered seat cushion and well upholstered frame and would fit perfectly into most settings, whether modern or traditional. It’s crying out for a roaring fire and a clay pipe perhaps…
You could of course decide to reupholster in a fabric of your choice however it’s perfectly fine to use as is – looking and smelling right.
