Truly English in stature - upright, handsome and honest! This armchair / library chair from the mid-1800s is a fine fellow indeed.
The chair sits in good historic order and possesses a great profile. It’s of a good size with a pleasing tall back which curves gently to catch the head (if you wish to nod off) with the width of the seat making it most comfortable. The rich coloured good quality mahogany frame is well aged, nice knocks and taps with some good craftwork on the arms – all supported by large brass castors. The chair is firm with no wobbles and has happily escaped been stripped back and restored! The gold velvet fabric would have been a newer addition, however it does not look out of place and is rip and hole free.
Due to his size we would assume he originates from a large home, possibly a country house or hefty townhouse… We have given him a light wax, making him ready to grace a variety of spaces.
Dimensions – Overall: Height 111cm x Width 66cm x Depth 82cm
Dimensions – Specifically the Seat: Height 45cm x Depth 54cm
