A real echo of his larger counterpart which is also for sale.
This Victorian ebonised chair is of superb quality, near “Premier League” and for sale in very original order. From top to bottom this is a very nice and finely executed chair. We have not found a makers mark but am sure this is about as good as it gets, the finish is so good.
Many parts of the even and well-shaped frame are incised and carved with precision and style - we love the delicately curved shoulders which are finished with a pair of “Greek Urns” on either side of a raised shield/pediment like carving. Likewise the front, back and legs are finished in a similar manner.
The chair also benefits from its original woven silk damask fabric be it a little frayed in places, stained and marked which is to be expected, however I would say that the chair has enjoyed a charmed life away from heavy use. Thus the frame is very firm, still showing a fine sheen and all castors are in full working order.
The chair dates from around the 1860s echoes an Empire feel and we hope it goes to someone who appreciates its quality. Please note we also have an Armchair, pictured and a 3 seat sofa which would make a most stunning set.
Martina would be happy to discuss recovering the chair or the set if you wish, please feel free to call.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 92cm x Width 58cm x Depth 64cm
Dimensions - Specifically the seat: Height 43cm x Depth 54cm
