Sitting as proud as a peacock in pleasing original condition this coal scuttle/box or would be perfect for loading up with logs or coal.
Having spent a little time rummaging through old catalogues and books we are pretty certain this one was designed by Henry Loveridge of Wolverhampton. An interesting chap who was pivotal in setting up the Wolverhampton School of Art and Design. He encouraged many of his workers to attend the school to ensure the designs for his metal items where bang on trend.
Back to the piece – it’s a very good-looking chap with wonderful feet - cast embossed with foliage and flowers as are similarly the brackets holding the shapely pot handle to the top. It surely strikes a cracking pose with plenty of curves – interesting to say the least.
Condition wise it’s been used of course – there are faint traces of gilding to some of the black tin especially the front face which would no doubt have been highly decorated – good news is that there are no holes or dents and we feel the condition is perfect – nicely aged rather than shiny, shiny!
Dimensions – Overall: Height 62cm x Width 38cm x Depth 60cm
Established in 2011, we take pleasure in working for private and commercial clients in the sourcing of single pieces though to full interior design www.malersykes.com
