Just the right condition – rich in patination, great colour and finished with a thick oak top making this cast iron grindstone stand very usable.
We have plonked a lamp on top but hey it could be used anywhere. This iron stand with its red painted plate bearing the name “Chas Lee and Sons, 12 Stall St, Bath” (now home of Ann Summers – how times change!), is wonderfully cast in a very pleasing form, slightly crusty, a little curvy, perched on 4 firm legs and finished in a time worn light blue colour. The oak top is a new addition and we have lightly oiled it just to hold its colour and grain. Also a perfect height we reckon…
A great chance to grab a bit of English rural history. Chas Lee & Sons were ironmongers in Stall Street and Swallow Street in Bath. It was way back in January 1890 that the then owner Charles Lee retired and handed over the firm to his two sons. We just love it!
Dimensions – Overall: Height 82cm x Width 60cm x Depth 33cm
Dimensions – Specifically the Top – Width 52cm x Depth 26.5cm
