A little less substantial and a little less reserved than its town based counterparts, this early Victorian chest of drawers has its origins rural based. The appearance is humble but none the worse for it, so no fancy pillars, no posh handles, no elaborate inlay just a pleasing modest shape.
The mahogany chest is pretty much as found, we see no point in over doing the restoration - any of its imperfections are indeed its charm and appeal. With two short drawers and 3 long drawers the chest is a good height to not only use in a bedroom but also for a living room or hallway.
It is worn where it should be, some of the cock beading is missing, has several light marks and the wooden knobs are pleasingly original - some many times historically replaced with fashionable brass ones. It sits on four pad feet and overall we feel it’s a super original example of an early Victorian piece that has not been messed with and is of a sensible size fitting in nicely into a number of rooms.
We have gently hand waxed the chest and ensured all the drawers are running freely.
A rather endearing little chest with a happy disposition.
Dimensions –Overall: Height 92cm x Width 91cm x Depth 46cm
