Wylie and Lochhead Arts and Crafts Reclining Armchair C.1900
Great looking Arts & Crafts reclining armchair in oak by Wylie and Lochhead of Glasgow. A lovely designed armchair. Wylie & Lochhead was established in 1829 by Robert Wylie and William Lochhead. Both gentlemen were cabinetmakers and were initially known as coffin builders.
This one has a pleasing stance with lovely shaped legs, gently curving arms and side rails that have been decorated with teardrop uprights. Condition is about right, super historic wear but perfectly usable. The chair currently sits with an emerald green velvet fabric seat - a little tired and worn. Our upholsterer is able to offer newly upholstered cushions to the seat and back plus add new webbing to the base for £260 plus VAT for foam filled cushions or £330 plus VAT for feather filled cushions, you would require around 4 meters of fabric. Please let us know if you would like this service when ordering - we have access to some quality fabrics and are happy to assist with sourcing swatches etc.
As mentioned the chair sits well with some nice tone and aging to the oak.
A rather good chair from Wylie and Lochhead.
