A highly decorative piece that offers a bit of statement but also has the ability to blend well with other pieces in a variety of settings.
Made around the 1950/60s this bust is in good order – The Oba of Benin or Omo N'Oba, is the traditional ruler of the Edo people and head of the historic Eweka dynasty of the Great Benin Empire - a West African empire centred around Benin City. According to oral tradition, the first dynasty of the Edo or Benin Kingdom was the Ogiso dynasty, rulers who were known to their people as the kings of the Sky. The number of such kings varies depending on which tradition is followed…
The bust, gilded bronze is in a great condition and is quite weighty, so very solid – with good aging and patina bearing in mind its age.
Dimensions – Overall: Height 41cm
