A Delightful Three-piece Chinoiserie Bergere Suite

A delightful three-piece Chinoiserie bergere suite comprising a two seater sofa and two armchairs, with cane work backs and pierced geometric sides, the black lacquered frames painted with gilt chinoiserie landscapes, flowers, numerous figures and insects, each piece newly reupholstered in a contemporary taupe coloured fabric, all raised on short square legs.
Always a pleasing find, especially as a complete three piece set. The set has undergone a full reupholster which has cleverly kept it as authentic as possible by using as much of the original fillings as possible – the original format coconut fibres were layered back into place and secured with a new layer of hessian. The original 8” coil springs were newly stitched into place by hand and are now held in place with new tensioning straps. The old felt was reinstalled along with a new, thin layer of foam for extra comfort and covered in a neutral taupe poly viscose fully fire retardant fabric finished off with gimp and upholstery studs.
The frames are all showing similar age wear on the arms, which is of course to be expected considering its age around 1910-20. The overall condition is good with no repairs, wobbles or sways to the chairs or sofa. There is one small hole to the cane work top, right of the sofa but this causes no real concerns to the use.
This would look wonderful in the drawing room of a period home, living room of a cottage and could also sit happily in a more contemporary apartment.
