Possessing simple lines and a rather reserved look, this Late Victorian glazed bookcase would not look out of place in a kitchen/diner as well as the sitting room or in a modern apartment. Some of the Victorian and Edwardian glazed bookcases can look a little daunting, a bit over elaborate and can be a little hefty in size however this one is pleasantly scaled down with good colour.
A sensible combination of two glazed doors, interior shelves, two lower doors and a single drawer. We would say a town gent rather than a country squire in origin!
Overall the piece is in good order with relatively light everyday use –The original glass sits in place with no cracks, the interior shelves are original, the carcass sits firm without wobbles, the grain is even and apart from a slight slit in the top of the bottom half which you cannot see due to the top sitting on it, it’s a pleasing and highly useful piece of furniture and would look great in most interiors.
It’s smart, neat and tidy and also separates into two for easy carriage…
