Rarely Seen Art Deco Limed Oak Chest of Drawers Waring & Gillow
A rather fabulous and very placeable chest of drawers in limed oak - stamped, numbered and labelled Waring and Gillow circa 1930. This chest has been owned and cherished by the same family since new, it's now wishing to find new keepers. Not an awful lot of these around in this design and quality…
A little something that may help. “In the late 20s/early 30s Waring and Gillow of London embarked on a brave new venture when they created a Modern Art Department and brought in the noted designer Serge Chermayeff as director. The first exhibition of this department showed furniture in the modern ‘Art Deco’ style by Chermayeff and Paul Follett, the director of Waring and Gillow of Paris.” The piece was probably part of that creation.
The images perfectly display that subtle Deco design and influence and you cannot doubt the quality of the craftsmanship and oak used with interesting grain and forms. The chest survives in fine order with no losses or repairs – gentle sensible use of course. We do have a matching dressing table with chair and a wardrobe/hall cupboard if you desire a set.
A super little chest of 3 drawers ready to enjoy.
