The last in a collection of mirrors we purchased together, all of them in original dusty condition, this one is the most ornate and largest of the five. A swirling and sweeping frame crested with a festoon of leaves and rose buds.
We have left this mirror untouched apart from a light brushing over ensuring that you not only get to view its real beauty but have the opportunity to comprehend its history. The gilding is interestingly shadowy in places – maybe having been hung over a coal or log fire. The stone paintwork which frames a gilded inner frame is also untouched and is mostly intact. The plaster work which is very ornate and spirited is a flowing mix of foliage and leaves and is only missing a few smaller pieces but again not enough to distract from the overall attractiveness. The pine frame which it sits in is strong as is the rear of the mirror.
A very decorative and striking mirror which is quite beautiful – just find a wall quick!
