Unusual Victorian Carved Anglo Indian Chair C1880
A very unusual armchair with prolific carving and a metal grated seat which shoves it towards the “Days of the Raj” around C1880. We’ve not seen one like this before and it’s a beauty – a real talking piece and a great feature for a hallway or sitting room. Fortunately this was found in untouched condition, except for the groovy little 1960s flat cushion, but we just love the contrast it adds.
It survives in good order with no pieces missing or repairs. It also benefits from not having been repolished or altered. We have a little split to the top of the joint in the right leg – but not a concern or nasty. A little of the rattan work is split at the rear, but again not a deal breaker. The metal grated seat is firm and very capable of taking a decent sized bum!
An utterly charming and interesting piece of Victorian furniture.
