Words that come to mind are distinguished, gentry, fine and awfully good, just to name a few for this pair of 19th century charcoal portraits.
We believe it’s the quality that raises this pair above the sometimes sombre portraits you see around. The finish and detail is of a very good quality and the composure, poise and features are just perfect. Both portraits are in ‘attic’ condition with some marks to the finish however no punctures or rips and we would assume at one point they would have been framed. It may be an option to front the portraits with some glass to avoid any smudging however the the pictures are stable and will only smudge if you give the surface a good old rub.
The size makes them perfect to hang or place close to each other and as mentioned the quality of the work is superb. We would also assume they both use the same hairdresser!
So great to have a pair which will surely create a mention or two once on display…
