In the good old days before Furniture Land or DFS, armchairs were made to order, to the exact requirements of the customer. You did not have to trek around a massive out of town Superstore on a Sunday grabbing a Big Mac along route... You would choose your style, talk over the fabric and an experienced furniture maker would take custom measurements and create what you desire.
This pair of wonderful later Victorian armchairs are just fantastic, we want to keep them but however we run a business and our apartment is somewhat full! You may notice from the picture that one is a little smaller at the seat height – that’s because the two people that had them made were wanting a slightly different height.
Their shape is spot on – the pictures do the talking on this. The condition is used with the original fabric which is in a remarkably good condition with light staining, fraying on some edges, missing trim and worn marks on some of the arms and seat benefiting from a loose covers in their later years. Personally I would not touch them however Martina's view is that they would look fabulous in a deep coloured, modern sumptuous velvet and Andy the Master Upholsterer would be happy to oblige. Grab these while you can they are ready to go – the seats are firm, condition good, frame strong and the little original castors turn well.
