Attractive Edwardian Tub Armchair by William Birch
Loving the shape and stance on this Edwardian tub chair. The frame has a fine line of inlay to the arms and front. This one is stamped W.B 9557 on the back leg and would suggest it is from the workshops of William Birch of high Wycombe.
Workshop report – the frame is firm with no repairs or wobbles and it sits well on its little original iron castors. The deep gold velvet fabric is a replacement from the original but has no holes or rips, just the odd mark or two. The seat is firm and you could use it as is if you wish or reupholster it. The frame does have nicks and marks with the curves having the odd nibble or two. Springs and frame are good and strong.
An unusually shaped chair with a hint of early Art Deco about it.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 83.5cm x Width 62cm x Depth 64cm
Dimensions - Specifically the Seat: Height 40cm x Width 49-43cm (Front-Rear) x Depth 50cm
