A black metal uniform trunk / chest with three sets of banding, capped corners and elaborate locks surviving from the late Victorian period presented in very much desirable untouched condition. So exciting to find a trunk that is historically tainted, showing its past gracefully and with paintwork of rich patination.
The trunk is, we suppose you would say, presented in “attic condition” with numerous scuffs, several marks to the original black paint with a few paper luggage labels marked South Africa still attached. The trunk with its ridged banding, capped corners, numerous carry handles and three rather hefty locks makes us think it belonged to a higher ranking officer and certainly takes it out of the usual run of the mill trunk. In addition, and adding character, it clearly bears the name L. D. Ford to the top central band. The interior, painted a light turquoise colour has a moveable shelf and is in a fair condition with a little light surface rusting along the edges, but nothing too scary. Overall the trunk is strong and robust bearing the usual battle scares having been shuffled from pillow to post…
It’s so good to find one of these trunks in an as found condition – so many are over painted or stripped and polished to a glossy lustre. A great looking, notable looking piece at a fair price we believe!
Dimensions – Overall: Height 20cm x Width 115cm x Depth 38cm
We include UK mainland delivery in the purchase price so you are able to relax rather than search for quotes or asking a friend of a friend to borrow a van!
