The attraction of this pine chest of drawers is without doubt its ability to have survived without somebody splashing a thick coat of white gloss over it, or dipping it into a tank of stripping solution.
This is how we prefer to find our chests – as a genuine article, with true use and full of history. It’s all intact – the original finish is a toffee/caramel mix, the knobs of a similar colour, as are the turned feet. It’s not mint, however with usage comes the knocks, bumps and the build-up of history which makes it so charming. We particularly love the word “home” which someone has marked with a pin on the top…
It sits firm on its 4 turned feet with the top showing its age – with the odd crack and chip in the original finish. The five drawers are running fine maybe not as smooth as a modern edition but fine all the same. We see no evidence that the chest was left in a shed or outhouse when not required in the home and thus smells fine and is not damp.
