Oak Antique Arts & Crafts Desk Untouched Condition
A great looking desk surviving in an unspoilt, untouched condition and yes the little paws for a dog adding its own character to one of the legs! Apparently a little dog would sit happily on the owner's lap and scratch away at the leg… hey we think there is little point in hiding or trying to do a cover up job - it's all part of the history.
The desk possesses a great form with the overhanging top slightly angled at the corners with an attractive edge detailing. As mentioned the desk sits in a wonderful aged condition - the original solid brass handles and escutcheons dull and unpolished, smashing wear to the drawer fronts and bottom of the legs. The oak is a mellow aged tone with the top worn and lighter. It is heavy for its size and sits firm with no wobbles or sways. The drawers are historically ink stained inside and are running fine. No smells or odours. The maker’s emblem - Sydney J Whitehead Leicester sits underneath the drawers.
A wonderfully aged English Arts & Crafts desk. Just a note of reassurance, the dog induced leg is just as strong as the other three!
