1920s Vintage Oak Armchair “Spring Chair by ‘Harford’”
A rather eccentric looking armchair, so individual and typical of some of the early designs from Great Britain - any attempt to trump the busy marketplace of the early 20th century.
This is the first one of this design we’ve come across and managed to get our hands on, officially and simply known as “Spring Chair by Harford” hence the four springs adding extra comfort and coolness. We love the damn thing!
Workshop report – It’s all there even the original label. We have rewebbed the bottom and upholstered it in an apple green short cut velvet fabric, the edges having been finished in a brown upholstery tape with tarnished studs which work well with the oak frame and is very much in keeping with the original tired finish. The blackened springs are good and firm with no cracks or repairs. The barley twist armed frame which we have gently waxed does have day to day marks but nothing ugly. It’s ready for another 100 years or so...
A cracking little statement piece for the home.
