Rare Pair of Oak Medical Side Tables - Chas Thackray and Son C1910
Always good to find a pair and this pair of medical side tables are a rare thing indeed – Arts & Crafts in style and with the makers pressed metal stamps proudly sitting to the front of both.
A little history: Charles Thackray was born in Leeds in 1877. He ran a pharmacy, 'Chas F Thackray Ltd' at 43 Great George Street, where he made medical and surgical equipment to make operations easier. Charles’ business grew quickly. He was soon supplying hospitals across the UK where operations were becoming more advanced and more successful.
The great thing about these is that they are not big in size so have lots of uses – side tables in a living room or bedside tables is another idea that comes to mind. They possess an elegant form with a lovely kick to the base of the slender oak legs and a pleasing edge to the tops. Full of character and charm.
Workshop report – Both tables are in similar condition and of the same tone of oak. Both a sitting firm with no wobbles or sways. We do have marks to the tops and the glass is newly fitted so as to make the tops more usable. Expect day to day surgical wear and tear. Both smell fine.
The first pair of these that we have come across and a great investment…
Dimensions - Overall: Height 67cm x Width 59.5cm x Depth at Top 28cm and at Base 31cm
