A good piece of Edwardian English painted pine furniture with its roots firmly in the country. The cupboard with its painted plank doors is a substantial piece and heavy in weight compared to many. It is showing its age well and enjoys a finish that has naturally distressed throughout its life with numerous marks, bruises and the odd chip or two. The right door is a little lively and needs to be kept closed with the sliding lock nothing that detracts from its look or usage but only reasonable to mention.
The cupboard is dry and the three interior shelves are all as they should be as is the back of the cupboard. There are a few historic repairs, (one to the bottom left side) which are well executed and the cupboard sits firm. By the appearance of the interior the cupboard has been used for dry storage maybe food and thus smells OK!
We have chosen to clean and then lightly wax the painted cream finish rather than strip back, however it would strip if need be, but we like it just the way it is – elderly and a little rough around the edges!
These cupboards look great in kitchens and also hallways especially at this height, having the ability to hold stacks.
