War Department Oak Side Table with Drawer By Herbert E Gibbs Ltd
Stamped W.D 1958 and presented in jolly good condition, this little side table could work well in the hallway, close to a sofa or chair or in a bedroom to name a few options.
Herbert E Gibbs trained as a cabinet maker at a technical college and also taught carpentry at a school. He founded Herbert E. Gibbs, a furniture manufacturing company in approximately the 1920s.
This side table is a great classic design with good build quality – from the little turned oak knob, stepped edging to the top, little side edges to the lower shelf right through to the slight shape to the lower parts of the legs. A super British post war piece.
Workshop report – the piece has enjoyed a gentle repolish, so expect a good solid oak piece with no wobbles, ugly repairs or unattractive marks. The drawer is running smoothly and it is ready to place.
A useful piece of War Department furniture in more desirable oak.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 70cm and Lower Shelf 18cm x Width 42cm x Depth 33cm
