Mid Century Gimson and Slater Rocking Armchair and Stool
A great looking set and from prominent British maker Gimson and Slater - these guys designed and manufactured some good looking furniture. This one survives in great order with the teak frame particularly stylish and catching the era well. The gently shaped teak frame with open joints to the front arms and its overall good proportions making it a worthy addition to a living room or commercial space.
Not always easy to find the chair and stool together from this era, so many times the chair was purchased individually – the stool seeming like a bit of an unnecessary expense bearing in mind the sets were not cheap when new.
Workshop report- the chair and matching footstool are solid with sensible day to day marks. The frames have been lightly polished by us. Both sit firm with the cushions, in a woven oatmeal coloured fabric, on the chair and stool in good order, again with sensible wear – no holes, rips, stains etc. We have cleaned the pieces and both are ready to place and enjoy. Expect day to day marks but nothing stressful. It’s also comfortable with the ability of the stool to raise slightly at one end.
A fine pair from a good British maker C1960s.
