Retrieved from a Victorian Sunday School in Cheshire this desk/drawers is standing in delightful used condition with very little alterations from when first crafted.
It is never easy to source pieces that are truly in original condition – most of the time pine has been dipped and stripped however, this one survives having lived all of its life in a Sunday school set within a Cheshire village.
The charm is the simplicity of the design and we assume that the desk/drawers would have been made locally by a carpenter rather than shipped in from a larger maker. Overall the condition is very good – wonderful texture and crazing to the paintwork, pretty slight handmade handles open the drawers and it is of a neat profile. The two drawers are running freely and lifting the sloping top reveals a mixture of different sized pigeon holes. The desk is firm in stature with no repairs.
