Early 20th Century English Oak 2 Drawer Desk
So many of these are classed as “Teachers Desks” and we are glad to say yes this one was actually used in a village school in Wales by a lady teacher and we were fortunate to have acquired it from her family.
It’s in wonderful historic condition with these wonderful pad shaped oak legs, brass cupped handles and aged oak top. Such a good compact size for a smaller home or commercial space.
Workshop report - The desk is sitting firm, very original, with the original brass cupped handles in situ which have aged to a wonderful tarnished finish - if you wanted to polish up then five minutes with Brasso would do the job, we prefer the aged look! The drawers are running fine and we have waxed the runners. The drawer interiors have old ink stains and the oak top is also marked with faded ink – nothing ugly – lots of character and history. There is a slight lift to the rear of the top, it's perfectly stable and not a worry. The piece has been lightly waxed and is ready for work.
A very appealing little English desk C1915.
