- A Late Victorian Ebonised Chippendale Revival Bookcase Bureau
A Late Victorian Ebonised Chippendale Revival Bookcase Bureau
Smaller in proportions than some and rather good-looking with lower and higher astral glazed doors and Chinese inspired blind fretwork throughout. Late Victorian nudging towards Edwardian, this piece would sit well in a period property and is of the right size to fit into a smaller home if required.
Workshop report – The cabinet is pretty much original. The glass in all doors remains in place. The lower cabinet possesses one shelf with the upper glazed section having 3 shelves. Overall the cabinet has historic knocks and bumps nothing new, excessive or unsightly. The drop down bureau fortunately possesses it original tooled green leather writing top be it age worn and the interior of this section is all in situ. The lock to the bureau does have its key, however both glazed sections have locks but not the keys. The upper section closes shut with the lower section just a little off kilter – but no big deal or annoying. The decorative brass handles on the drawers are original.
An attractive and nicely aged piece of late Victorian furniture with function.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 193.5cm x Width 88.5cm x Depth 42.5cm
