Handsome 1920s British Oak Single Pedestal Desk
A great looking British desk surviving from the early 20th Century and found in the office of a Yorkshire engineering company.
This one differs a little from other single pedestals in that it’s got depth! Sometimes these single pedestals can be a little lacking in depth however this one gives you plenty of space to spread out...
It’s a cool looking piece with a narrow top drawer with a flank of two drawers - one top and another double depth for files sitting to the right. These are topped by a typing slide.
Workshop report – the desk survives in good order. The frame is firm with no repairs. The cleaned drawers do have historic ink stains and are running fine after the runners were waxed. The stout square oak legs are brass capped at the ends - a nice touch. The bottle green top is frayed at the edges and marked in places and coloured to the top but historically, nothing fresh. Nice panelled sides and backs means it could sit in a room not just against a wall. No bad odours.
Looking for a great looking and useful oak desk, then this one is ready to place.
