Small Early 20th Century Work Table from Albion St Works Birmingham
An appealing and wonderfully time worn work table found in the corner of the 1st floor of the Albion Works workshop, a Grade 2 listed building in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. We have tried to set up the table as found with a few of the bracelet formers which were sitting on top of the table and one of the lamps.
It’s a workshop made piece and is uncomplicated in construction and form but all the better for it. We have the oak legs once painted now showing paint loss at the bottom climbing up the legs and lots of chips, dings and wear to the top and lower shelf. It sits firm with no wobbles and is heavy for its size.
Ageing has made this a very interesting and attractive piece and due to its size very useful and accommodating.
A fab chance to own a bit of Albion Street Works history – the factories made parts for Rolex and also made the fob chain for Winston Churchill – to name drop a few…
