A handsome pair of “gentlemen’s” chairs from the Victorian Era. These are a cracking pair of chairs in very good all round order and pretty much untouched apart from a quick dust and check over.
The serpentine framed fronts sit on a pair of well carved front legs. The seat is broad, the back wide and tall with its well carved mid rail and spoon back top. Making them not only comfortable but also very attractive. We found the chairs in Derbyshire along with a few other items including a rather decent oak desk with zinc top.
The Rexine seating is displaying its age however we think it’s just right- a little cracked and worn but it would be a great shame to recover, however that’s your choice. The frames are very firm with no wobbles, repairs, squeaks or movement and the mahogany is of a good colour, thickness and quality. These were the style of chairs that would sit in a solicitor’s office, the waiting room of an Edwardian doctor or the vestibule of a private school.
These are a very pleasing pair of heavy chairs which in our view are a cut above most, somewhat stylish and would fit into most spaces – with a desk, in a hallway or drawing room, and very much ready to enjoy.
