1930s Oak Swivel Office Desk Chair by Angus of London
Angus were a top-quality furniture maker, originally from Scotland but had a large London premises at 44-52 Paul Street, EC2 and this swivel chair from the 1930s is a cracking example.
Lots to admire on this one – firstly the condition is great, untouched and considerately used, the oak bentwood arms are rather good-looking and the propeller shaped legs are just glorious to mention two highlights. The overall form is very much of the era and it just looks right.
Workshop report - We have lubricated the swivel mechanism. The oak arms are firm with no movement or repairs as is the oak base. The four original castors are in place and running fine- worth remembering never as smooth as modern counterparts. The original brick red rexine upholstery is fine apart from a little 1.5cm split in the back – not an eyesore. The adjustable seat height is working fine. We have given it a light clean and wax over – a very good original example.
A fine looking 1930s oak desk chair from a good maker – ready for work.
