Handsome Vintage British 1930s Oak Twin Pedestal Desk
Having enjoyed a commercial past and living most of its life in a London office, this desk was, until recently owned by a local engineer.
It’s a traditional combination of long middle centre drawer with a flight of 3 drawers on the right and two to the left with the bottom one being deeper for files. The 2 pull out typing slides are in situ which is always useful. Probably by Astrola of London which would match up with the original owner well.
The desk is a good tone, neat and tidy with good historic knocks and bumps. We love the classic angled original handles to the drawers - which are working well, no key or lock we’re afraid…There are the usual ink stains to the inside of some of the drawers but nothing fresh. We have cleaned the desk, waxed the drawer runners and given the frame a light wax over to give it a decent sheen. It smells fine. The top will come off if space is tight for placing.
A sensible size, good shape - not too big and not too small we reckon. Looking for a vintage desk with a bit of real history then it’s worth a serious look…
