An interesting Masonic pedestal dated to 1930 in original condition. The pedestal may have been used for the placing of the Bible etc whilst ceremonies were performed. This one is dated with a small brass plaque inscribed “Presented to the Wilberforce Lodge No 5186 by Bro J.J.Boyce 1930”.
The Meeting Places for The Wilberforce included:
Stanley's Restaurant, Lavender Hill, London, England 1930
Ardington Rooms, Clapham Junction, London, England 1938
Royal Angus Hotel, 39 Coventry Street, London, England 1970
Coburg Hotel, 129 Bayswater Road, Bayswater, London, England 1975
London Masonic Centre, Clerkenwell Green, Clerkenwell, London, England 1980
Central London Masonic Centre, The Old Sessions House, 22 Clerkenwell Green, London, England 2012
The pedestal is in original condition and shows plenty of knocks and bumps and generally lots of use however it is strong in stature and possesses a rather grand look which is to be expected considering its history. There is evidence of old gilding around the top and base and a slanted foot rest in the rear well has seen much use.
Altogether a very fascinating piece of history which I am certain holds many secrets and has its uses as a pedestal, side table, stand or display piece.
Dimensions - Overall: Height 89cm Width 48cm x Depth 46cm
