Set of 7 1930S Oak and Blue Leather Chairs by Hands of Wycombe Original Condition
A recent find from a glorious country house in Lancashire. This set of 7 oak and leather chairs survive in an untouched condition made by the high class makers Hands of Wycombe – these guys made some of the Coronation Chairs in 1953.
These would have sat around a large boardroom table and maybe part of a larger set when new. With their classic 1930s look and stature, we think they are rather wonderful with the RAF blue leather working very well with the oak.
Workshop report - As mentioned these survive in original condition. The oak frames are firm and show day to day marks and knocks. The blue leather is aged to all parts – crusty and worn in places with two of the seats having leather splits and loss. All the chairs do have cracks to the leather, but hey, that’s originality for you. We have gently balsamed the leather. The seats are a little lumpy but to be honest comfortable and usable. The undersides have had new hessian applied.
A great looking set from a good maker and presented in fab condition.
