Wonderful Victorian Aesthetic Movement Chest of Drawers C1880
This chest of drawers C1880 is presented in particularly good, untouched condition and an uncommon find being part of a set which we have.
As mentioned it's getting more difficult to find these chests - most having been stripped, modified or left to die in sheds or barns. This one has many lovely attributes of the Aesthetic Movement era - the two-tone scumble grained finish, the pleasingly shaped brass handles and painted fronts to the drawers and top. It's a classic Victorian combination of 3 lower graduated drawers topped with a pair of short ones sitting on a square plinth.
We are fortunate to have a beautiful matching dressing stand, two small chairs and a small bedside cabinet all decorated in a similar manner.
Workshop report - the painted and scumble glaze finish to the pine chest is about right. All of the original unpolished and nicely tarnished brass handles are in situ. The chest is firm with no wobbles or repairs. We have vacuumed the drawers - the top left drawer having its original little key. It’s been a dust over to ensure its ready to place. Expect sensible wear to the carcass.
A delightful English chest of drawers C1880.
