We found this 52 drawer cabinet in a helicopter parts factory and we think that it’s an extremely good example, having a wonderful used look, being of a sensible size and great shape.
This one is a true vintage factory find with each of the 52 drawers having been crammed full of screws, bolts and washers and having its fair share of grease and grime when we first viewed it. We have carefully cleaned the cabinet and lightly polished the surface to protect the finish trying our upmost to ensure that its original identity, its history and appearance is not lost but enriched.
The small factory based, established in 1950 in a Black Country village was producing small parts for helicopters and fortunately for us we met managing director who was delighted to show us around and point out the history.
The metal cabinet which is coloured in a mix of blues, greens and raw steel and showing its wear clearly has a tremendous feel. It is strong in appearance and is of a good weight. There is a mix of differing handles with a couple missing however we feel this does not detract from its attraction.
