Late Victorian Gentleman’s Leather Library Armchair C1900
A good looking English library armchair surviving in original unmessed with condition. It’s a fine-looking chap with a shapely form with the original chocolate coloured grained leather wonderfully worn in the right places – arms, front and the scroll back.
Workshop report – Good news on the leather - there is wear and marks as per images to the leather with no rips or loss to the main exterior – we have a leather repair to the lower seat area to the left front but not too bad, otherwise expect genuine wear to the original grained leather. We have restrung and attached the springs and also rewebbed the bottom of the chair which is recovered in a hessian to keep it neat looking. The arms are a little squashy to the tops – again over 100 years of wear and the seat is a little lumpy and squashy but perfectly useable. Worth remembering this was made around 1900 so expect wear and use. Its smells fine and we have lightly conditioned the leather but not gone overboard.
A fine looking English armchair radiating real character and charm.
