C1900 Antique Oak English Village School Desk
Having enjoyed a life in a village school, primarily in the library, this oak desk survives in wonderful aged condition with no alterations or recent marks.
The whole piece is well aged in the right places, the original brass cupped handles are age dulled, the drawer faces have wear close to the handles and the top is a pleasing age toned.
It’s a humble set up, worthy of its origin - a flight of 3 drawers to the left, a shelved cupboard to the right with a solid oak top. The frame with its panelled sides and back is full of character with fine craquelure to many parts and genuine wear to the plinth and top.
Workshop report – We have waxed the drawer runners and they are running well. There are historic ink stains to the inside of the drawers and to the shelves in the cupboard side. The oak top sits fine with a section to the rear showing some small holes –possibly from a mounted pencil sharpener - historic not fresh and not ugly. The desk is firm with no wobbles and smells fine. It will break down into small pieces if space is tight for placing.
So pleasing to find a sensible sized English desk in rather splendid untouched condition...
